Unfolding Emotions

I feel that our lives begin as a ball of tightly woven thread, which slowly unfolds as we walk through our unique path in life.

A critical part in the unfolding of my own life, is painting.

In this exhibition some artworks can be hung from two or more different sides. This interactivity allows the viewer to connect even more with the specific artwork which is my utmost desire and goal.

Figures & Motifs

In painting, my most favourite subject has been and will always be people, the human element.

The emotions that a person will stir up within me , are the driving force and energy behind starting and creating a painting.

These intense feelings become my palette of colours.

Lefkaritika

2012 — Rouan Gallery — Limassol, Cyprus

My hands are skillful. I prefer to touch things because I sense and understand them better.

It’s as if my hands «speak better» than my mouth so I always prefer to demonstrate than to explain verbally.

I loved embroidery since elementary school and suddenly I felt a strong desire to embroider especially lefkaritiko a very traditional Cyprus embroidery .

After much patience and experimentation my exhibition “Lefkaritika ” incurred where I incorporated some famous lefkaritika stitches in my paintings.

Now that I grew up I realize that I have inexhaustible patience in my art and when a clear goal is formed in my head I will get there.

It does not matter how much time and effort is needed and setbacks simply strengthen my determination to achieve my goal.

Morfi Gallery

2011 — Limassol, Cyprus

Small abstract paintings that have been buried in my memories and subconscious are visualised in various styles in various techniques.

One needs to get very close to the painting to discern the delicate , sensitive details.

When I paint the result has to be perfect in my eyes. Every imperfection, every “accident” when I paint is welcomed and evaluated and most times becomes part of the painting.

Experimentation always creates interesting results which I use in my art works.

Hold on for a moment, I have something to tell you

2009 — Cyprus Embassy, Athens

When I enter my atelier I leave outside the door all thoughts about everything else, family, my work in the family company Eureka, relatives, friends and acquaintances.

It’s like an atonement, as if there is nothing other than a canvas and paints.

My mind is a blank page and emotions, instinct, intuition get the upper hand.

Experimenting with all materials that fall into my hands is inexhaustible and an indispensable element in my work and I feel like a small inventor of painting techniques.

Municipal Library

2003 – Limassol, Cyprus

When I was young about 22 years old, I set a target to have my first exhibition in 2000, when I would be 43 years.

Finally I succeeded to have it in 2003.

My first show was retrospective of the 20 years of work up to that point of time, and presented numerous projects full of energy, emotion and passion in small sections of 2 to 4 art works.

There was no logic, no organization at all and «no must do or should not.»

Whatever touched me emotionally I painted it with speed and had to finish it as soon as possible.
